I’m Still Native But Improved
I’m Still Native But Improved provides insight into the natives and nativars found in the Central Midwest. This book includes plants that are native to Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, western Ohio, western Tennessee, northern Arkansas, and western Kentucky. A few naturalized plants which have become embedded in our native landscape are also included.
About Trent A. Mohlenbrock
Trent A. Mohlenbrock has provided landscape consultations and design services for 28 years. As an owner of his own garden center in Southern Illinois, Trent uses his knowledge to help homeowners enhance their outdoor living areas. He learned his love of plants by following his father Robert H. Mohlenbrock, a professor of Botany at SIU Carbondale, through the fields and woods around the United States.
Trent and his father go out every Wednesday into the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois to look for native plants growing along the roadside. They call this Southern Illinois Roadside Botany. Last year, they found 18 new plants new to Illinois.
About Robert H. Mohlenbrock
Robert H. Mohlenbrock is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he taught for 34 years. After retiring from the university, he taught 328 week-long wetland plant identification courses in 32 states. He is the author of 80 books and was a major professor for 93 graduate students. He has written a monthly column called “This Land” for Natural History magazine since 1984.
